It's interesting to me that commercial balustrades have to be 1100mm while residential only has to be 900mm. Is there a reason for that? My guess is that it would be for liability reasons.

That's good to know your balustrade is perfect if it matches your staircase. I recently bought a house and am looking at putting in a staircase. I'll have to find wooden balusters.

I agree that you should ask a professional to install the balustrades for you to make it a lot easier on yourself. You don't want to buy the railings just to ruin them when you install them! I'll make sure I ask a professional how to do it before I try to do anything myself.

You make an excellent point about confirming the type of staircase that our house has before proceeding to have railings installed. My house has a spiral staircase. I think I will call a contractor to have the staircase checked for its material so it can be complemented with the right railing.

Thanks for the tips! Glass balustrades although stunning, can be expensive, however, they do let in an abundance of air and light, open up living areas, and they are a wonderful way to showcase a staircase as an architectural feature.

We just moved to a new house and we are looking at having custom hand railings. It was very helpful when you mentioned that The handrails on the domestic property should withstand 0.36kN/m. I'll look for a contractor near my place to install a custom hand railing making sure that it can withstand 0.36kN/m.
